Video art : Mickey Mouse in Aspic.

Mickey Mouse in Aspic was conceived as a work rooted in the language of video art, in which form and the organisation of the material play a central role. The concept is based on the contrasting juxtaposition of situations, bodily arrangements and poses, while the recurring gesture of pushing a library trolley provides the work’s central dramatic axis. The trolley moves back and forth across the frame, from right to left and then back again.

A variety of figures appear on its platform, ranging from passive and limp bodies to exaggeratedly expressive or solemn poses. The trolley functions as a mobile stage on which the actor’s body becomes a sign—fluid, continually transformed and placed within new contexts.
